The city announces that all buses and major bus stops will have free Wi-Fi from next year.

BUSAN, South Korea - All 2511 city buses and 160 bus stops in the city will have free Wi-fi by July 2012.

Starting this month, wireless Internet access will become available in 1,300 buses which drive by Busan-based universities and 80 major bus stops. The first stage of the plan will be completed by the end of December 2011.

The second stage will begin next January. The city will install Wi-Fi in the remaining 1,211 buses and 80 other major bus stops, and have the project completed by July.

With the increase in smartphone usage around the country, the city hopes to give easier access to information for its passengers, and provide more convenient services for free.

Busan City and SK Telecom signed an MOU to establish the mobile Internet infrastructure, utilizing SK Telecom’s WiBro network service established city-wide.
