BIFF News: BIFF to premiere FOCUS FORWARD – Short Films, Big idea short films

FOCUS FORWARD - Short Films, Big Ideas initiative, brought by General Electric (GE) and CINELAN has partnered with the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) to expand its sphere to Asia.

SEOUL, South Korea -- Through the partnership FOCUS FORWARD intends to spread global awareness of FOCUS FORWARD Filmmaker Competition and to support the initiative as a whole. The theme of FOCUS FORWARD carries a special resonance throughout Asia, which has a rich history of innovation in art and science.
FOCUS FORWARD - Short Films, Big Ideas is a series of 30 three-minute nonfiction films, inspired by GE’s vision of innovative people being the catalyst for world change. Produced by leading documentary filmmakers, the films explore the incredible human power of ideas and invention and will screen at prestigious film festivals globally, followed by day-and-date distribution online to millions of viewers.

FOCUS FORWARD Filmmaker Competition is a cash prize award total of $200,000 that will be awarded to the top five entries in the professionally juried Challenge ( ). Qualifying films for the Filmmaker Competition are three-minute end-to-end stories about people or organizations whose innovative efforts in medicine, computer science, robotics, engineering, green energy, or other fields of art and knowledge have had a significant positive impact on humanity. The Grand Prize and Jury Award winners will be announced at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
As a Sponsor of the 17th Busan International Film Festival, they also will showcase their initiative project at the festival. Fifteen to twenty innovative and refreshing FOCUS FORWARD short films will world premiere at the 17th BIFF. Two FOCUS FORWARD filmmakers will hold mentoring session at the festival and one FOCUS FORWARD filmmaker will guest-lecture at Asian Film Academy (AFA). FOCUS FORWARD has always collaborated with award-winning professional filmmakers such as Joe Berlinger Jessica Yu, Phil Cox, Albert Maysles, Floyd Webb and so on.
The 17th Busan International Film Festival will be held from Thursday, October 4, 2012 to Saturday, October 13, 2012.
