Busan Citizens Park to start construction on Sept. 11th

BUSAN, South Korea - Busan Citizens Park has finally witnessed the start of construction work, at a groundbreaking ceremony on August 11 at the former site of U.S. Camp Hialeah. As many as 1,000 people, including the Mayor of Busan, Heo Nam-sik, and the U.S. Ambassador to Korea, Kathleen Stevens, attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

The construction of the 528,000㎡ Busan Citizens Park is expected to be finished around the end of 2014, at a cost of 649.4 billion won.

The Citizens Park's design will be based on the concept of famous park designer James Corner. A library, history museum, culture & art academy, national theatre, cafe, restaurant, playground, exercise equipment and observatory will be built in the grounds. 22 buildings that reflect the historic legacy of the site will also be preserved.
