Busan now a Top 4 Asian International Conference City

Busan is now ranked in the top 4 international conference cities in Asia, rising 20 spots in one year to No. 17 in world rankings.

BUSAN, South Korea -- Busan was ranked as one of the top 4 international conference cities in Asia, and No. 17 in the world, rising in the rankings by 20 places in just one year as the city dramatically strengthens its status as a world-famous international conference city.

The Union of International Associations (UIA) declared its 2010 City Rankings in terms of the number of international conferences that were held last year, on June 20 this year. Busan attracted 93 international conferences, putting it in 4th place in Asia and in 17th place in the world. In 2009, Busan ranked 10th in Asia and 37th in the world, meaning that it has jumped a further 6 places up the rankings in Asia and 20 places in the world.

Notably, Busan is the only city among the top 4 cities in Asia which is not a capital city. Among UIA's Asia ranking, Singapore came first, followed by Seoul, Tokyo and Busan.

Busan plans to attract various quality international conferences by increasing its convention infrastructure, with the construction of the BEXCO extensions and the completion of the Busan Cinema Center. It also plans to expand its international marketing activities.
