Korean Movies Make up 50% of Tickets

Korean movies had a good year at the box office in 2011.


SEOUL - The return of domestic dominance of the local screens was evident in 2011, as over 50% of tickets sold at movie theaters were for local films. This was the first time in the past four years that over 50% of tickets were for local movies.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Thursday, Korean movies had a 51.9 percent market share in 2011, up 5.4 percentage points from a year earlier.

Five Korean films drew over four million viewers, an increase from two in 2010.
