North Korean Defector to Speak this Weekend in Busan

A nightmare world is the waking reality for most of the 25 million people who live in North Korea. One such person was fortunate enough to escape and will a talk this weekend at Busan National University.

BUSAN, South Korea -- A recent North Korean defector will share her story at Busan National University on 16 June at 2 p.m. in Seonghak Hall (성학관, building 422, room 102).

The North Korean woman, who goes simply by “Miss Kim” (because of the danger to relatives still in North Korea if her real name is known), worked in trade before she fled to China. Once in South Korea, she attended the Hanawon government rehabilitation program for refugees earlier this year and is now living in a halfway house learning how to adapt to a new way of life here in the South.

This will be her first time telling her story in public, but she is willing to relive the reality of her experience so that others may get a glimpse of the humanity behind the headlines.

Following her talk there will be a question and answer session.
