Busan and Beyond: Poko Lambro is Going Home

BUSAN, South Korea -- One Wednesday in March 2009, I walked into Ol’55 Tavern for Mike Edmunds’ open mic music night. He told me there was a new couple in town named Anthony and Violet who were going to play. Great! I thought, new blood. When it was their turn to play, I sat down in the corner of the bar and watched them set up.

Poko Lambro Release Video For "Home"

BUSAN - Busan's own Poko Lambro have released their video for their original song, "Home". Shot entirely in Busan by Director Ryan Gibson, the song is a fitting tribute to the band who are about to end their three-year run in the city and return to the U.S. within the next two months.

The video is shot around Igidae Park, as well as within friends apartments from the city. The song also features appearances by local musicians Gino Brann and Kelsey Smith, and the video was edited by Jim Batcho, and engineered by Mike Laveck.

Poko Lambro will be performing at the Haps 17th issue Launch Party this Saturday, the 4th, at Billie Jean in Haeundae.

BUSAN, South Korea -- It was ten years ago when bar owner, Dongha Kim, decided to take a chance opening a bar around Kyungsung University, an area that hadn’t established itself quite yet as a foreigner hangout. He had done well with his bars around the PNU area, but this was a big move.

BUSAN, South Korea -- Deep within the heart of cinema is an understated language, transcribed by the moving image, and interpreted on an emotional level by the audience. What some people may not know is that virtually every country with a prominent film industry has seen a revolution; an era in filmmaking which brought about significant changes to the way movies are made. Putting all of this into context begs the question: What do we really know about the history of Korean cinema?

The Lowdown on Recording in Busan

The Lowdown on Recording in Busan

BUSAN, South Korea - One common cultural refuge for expats of any stripe has, historically, been music. And at this point, we don’t care if it’s a Coldplay cover band, a street jazz trio on the Gwangan strip, or belting out Rebecca Black at a Noraebang some Saturday night.
